A full outline explains a course. An attack outline helps you make decisions quickly. The two documents should be related, but they are not the same product. If your 'attack outline' is twenty-five dense pages, it may still be a full outline with a new name.

Organize by exam questions

Use headings that mirror decisions: Is there personal jurisdiction? Was a contract formed? Is the statement hearsay? What standard of scrutiny applies? Under each question, list the rule, key branches, and factual triggers.

Put exceptions next to the rule they interrupt

Do not create an 'exceptions' section far away. When the general rule has a major exception, place it in the same decision path.

Test it with one timed question

If you cannot find the relevant branch quickly, revise the structure. If you find the rule but still do not know what fact matters, add the factual trigger.

Build the attack outline after you understand the unit, then keep revising it with practice. Its job is not to preserve every detail; its job is to help you retrieve and apply the right detail when time is limited.
