What it checks

Cases: party names, reporters, pinpoints, courts, years, parallel cites, and history.
Westlaw and Lexis cites, Id., and short forms.
U.S. Code, C.F.R., Federal Register, constitutions, federal court rules, and Restatements.
Law review articles in common journals.

Good to know

The checker reviews format. It can’t confirm that a case exists or that page numbers are right.
Italics are lost when you paste plain text, so typeface isn’t checked.
Parts can be in any order: the checker finds each part and puts it in the right place.
Most citations are checked in your browser. A citation in an unusual format is sent to our server, with AI help, to identify its parts. It isn’t stored, and the AI can only use words from your citation.
