# The Night Before the Bar Exam: Protect Tomorrow’s Performance
The night before a bar exam is a poor time for a final attempt to 'learn everything.' The useful work is narrower: verify logistics, review only a small set of high-priority material if that helps you settle, prepare what you are permitted to bring, and create conditions for a predictable morning.
Stop using anxiety as a study schedule
If you discover a rule you cannot remember at 10 p.m., another three hours of frantic review may cost more in fatigue than it produces in usable knowledge. Use a predetermined stop time rather than deciding based on how nervous you feel.
Check the official instructions one last time
Confirm location, arrival time, identification, permitted items, prohibited items, laptop requirements, transportation, and any jurisdiction-specific instructions. Do not rely on a classmate’s checklist if the official instructions differ.
Prepare the morning
Set alarms, clothes, transportation, permitted materials, food, and hydration plan. The objective is to remove decisions from the morning so attention can be reserved for the exam.
Do not perform a post-mortem between exam sessions
Once a session is complete, you cannot earn additional points on it. Avoid spending the break litigating disputed answers with other examinees. Eat, reset, and prepare for the next task.
The night before the exam is part of exam performance. Your goal is not to feel perfectly confident; it is to arrive prepared, rested enough to think, and ready to execute the work you have already practiced.
